Who is it for?

Perhaps you’re a complete novice at cooking or baking? Maybe you’re proficient but in need of some help with particular skills or would like to learn new approaches? From making an omelette to a three course dinner party meal, an artisan loaf or an exquisite piece of patisserie, whatever your level of experience, you’ve come to the right place!

You could be:

  • A busy parent looking to cook quick, tasty and nutritious meals
  • Living alone and wanting to widen your repertoire
  • Looking for a new hobby in retirement
  • A student setting out to live independently
  • A group of friends wanting to engage in a fun and worthwhile activity, perhaps for a celebration!
  • A confident cook or baker who wants to expand their repertoire
  • A young person choosing cooking as part of their DoE award
  • Anyone wishing to become more proficient as a baker or cook

What we do

It's a Breeze Get Baking and Get Cooking will give you the confidence to achieve more. Not a typical cookery school, It's A Breeze will work with you individually or with a small group of friends (suggested maximum of four) in your own kitchen at your own pace and level. The friendly and accessible sessions take place using your kitchen tools, oven and hob so that you know that you can repeat what you learned and achieved long after the lesson is over. The only restriction will be the size of your kitchen and the equipment you have. You will find plenty of ideas on our Get Cooking and Get Baking pages!


Each session will be bespoke to you ‑ you decide what you want to develop or tackle. You will find some ideas if you click on Get Cooking or Get Baking but don't let these lists restrict you. The idea is that the approach is personalised to improve your skills from your starting point and in your own circumstances.

Your kitchen

One particular aspect of It’s a Breeze is that you will be encouraged to review your own kitchen set-up to ensure on-going success. What basic pieces of equipment do you need to do what you want? Can you manage your oven's idiosyncrasies to ensure perfect results every time? Most importantly, It's a Breeze will put you on the right road to getting the results you want in your own kitchen!

Maureen Breeze

Maureen has been a passionate cook and prolific baker for as long as she can remember. One of her earliest memories is marvelling at the rising of the bread dough on the hearth of her family home in Yorkshire. Her mother baked bread almost every day. It wasn't long before Maureen was taking over in the kitchen and baking the family bread and experimenting with all kinds of cooking and baking. One early hard-fought quest was to entice her coal mining father to something other than meat and two veg!

A trained scientist and qualified teacher, Maureen's fascination with the science of cooking has led her to a deeper understanding of ingredients and how they behave and interact under different conditions. She has always found it useful to understand why something works or fails. Her role as an educator has provided her with the skills and approaches to enable her to get the best from her students, young and old.

A vegetarian for many years, Maureen has developed a broad repertoire of tasty vegetarian food from simple snacking to dinner party fayre.

Maureen's name has been a familiar in baking success at her local Flower and Produce Show, winning numerous awards over almost two decades as well as other local competitions. She has organised regular cookery demonstrations and runs special food and dining events in her local community café.

In both professional and voluntary capacities, she has worked in food production over many years. She has a NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Professional Cookery (Patisserie & Confectionary) (City & Guilds).
